Memphis Matriarch Was ‘Critical’ Foundation of Griffin & Strong, P.C.: Evelyn Boyce Strong, 1925-2022
ATLANTA, GA – It is with great sadness that Griffin & Strong, P.C. announces the passing of Mrs. Evelyn C. Boyce Strong, the mother of CEO Rodney K. Strong, mother-in-law of President Delmarie A. Griffin, and grandmother of Chief Operating Officer Dr. Imani Strong-Tucker. She was 96 at the time of her passing on Saturday, April 30, 2022.
Mrs. Strong was a critical financial supporter during GSPC’s inception and continued to lend her wisdom and backing in many ways through the years. “Her advice and support have been instrumental in the growth and success of Griffin & Strong over the intervening 30 years of the firm’s existence,” Rodney Strong said.
An educator, community leader and a woman of faith, Mrs. Strong was generous with her time and wealth of experience when it came to shepherding the development of GSPC.
“She was a caring person, an avid reader, and an excellent listener who provided brilliant and practical insights when they were most needed,” Delmarie Griffin said. “Mrs. Strong encouraged all who engaged with her and hers was the definitive example of a well-lived life. Her passing leaves such a void, but she is a large part of the reason this firm continues to exist.”
Perhaps most impactful is the impression Mrs. Strong had on Imani Strong-Tucker, who represents her legacy to GSPC.
“Evelyn Strong, our Nana, epitomized strength, dignity, and love,” Strong-Tucker said. “I was immensely fortunate to have her sound advice, loving support, and giving spirit guiding me throughout my life. I am comforted to know that she was a woman of great faith, and that she is now Home.”
Mrs. Strong was born on Oct. 22, 1925, in Memphis, TN, where she lived all her life. A graduate of Booker T. Washington High School and LeMoyne College (now LeMoyne-Owen College), she went on to become a teacher in the Memphis City Schools. Mrs. Strong was also a lifelong member of the NAACP, including during the Civil Rights Movement, when her affiliation threatened to end her career as a teacher.
She is survived by her sister Dr. Gloria Peace, sons Rodney Keith Strong (Delmarie Griffin) and Byron Reginald Strong, stepdaughter Ivorie Russell, three grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and loved ones.
